Hi all

There's    section on the  home  page   called   Forum   Statistics,  which   has a  lot  of useful  data

One  data  sheet  is the  number  of  postings  per  person.

At one time  I was,  after George  of course,   by  far  and  away    the  No  2,  but  now  Steven, Pat and    Joey   have  overtaken me.

That's   partly  because  I have  been   pre-occupied  with a  load  of      other  stuff,  both  at  work ( office)  and   some  deeply  off-line    snuff bottle    stuff  which  ( if   successful)    will  be a  real  mind-blower  -  for the   good  of all, I hasten to   add

Also ,  working  on the   data  base  is   now  almost a  full  time   job (  well  -   2  hours  / day ) .  It  took me  about    24  hours  of  elapsed  time to  download and   categorize   all that   Shandong  www.neihua.org     site  , and the   results    will all be  available   when  you   get the  new  expanded  DB.    I  went to  S'pore a   month ago and   gave  out   memory  sticks   with the  latest    version of the   DB , which is  now   8 GB, to  every   collector  I met there.

Richy has  one  copy ( also the Nanyang  Group   have  2  copies)  ,  so I  hope , Richy,  you  will  copy  it  on  to others  in S'Pore  :   it's  simple thing to copy  on to others   with  USB  sticks   which these  days  cost  peanuts

And  the  magic  thing  about the   DB is that  you can  take  it over  and  use  it  as the  nucleus  of  your  own  DB  because  once  you   download  it to  HD    you  can   add  to  any file   you  wish and  add  new  files,  whatever.

My vision  is that  one  day the   DB  will  be  seen  in retrospect  as  the  modern-day  equivalent  of   J. H. Leung's  "A New  Look of  Inside  Painted  Snuff  Bottles " ( and  his  entire  book, both   English and  Chinese  versions  are  embedded  in the  data  base,  sorted  by artist )

But  I'm really  happy that   there   are  such active   members   who  log  in  every day  and  contribute  such great   stuff.

So,  I'm more than  happy  to lose  my (  short-lived )  crown  to  the  new   Usain  Bolts  of the  Forum

Grin     Grin    Grin   Grin    Grin    Grin   Grin  Grin

( Must have  8  smiles  for good  luck and    fortune ,  not   4   !  )

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter,

Is the Nanyang group a organization or a private collector? it seems that Nanyang group has a Huge collection of the modern inside painted bottles.

Just curious and sorry for being so naive. Embarrassed

Hi Steven

The  Nanyang   Group  in S'Pore  is  about    10 -12   collectors,  of    which    about   half   are   BIG  collectors, and they    did the  bulk  of  VMIPB  buying  in the   1990's and  early   2000's   ( long  before I  got  onto the   VMIPB scene)

They  are  GREAT  guys   and  very  sincere,  and they   go to all the  big   meetings/  exhibitions  in  China  and   Taiwan

They are  all  coded    with  S   or  S+  in my data  base

I have  nothing  but  pure   admiration  for  them  because  as  early as  the  mid  1990's  they   spotted the  supreme   2nd  -  level   artists   e.g  Wang  Guan Yu  and  bought  all   their  bottles

Probably  Richard  can   fill in more   details

Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter and Steven

The Nanyang Group was formed by a group of collectors who work for the Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore and hence the name. They started collecting in the late 1980's and only collect modern inside painted bottles.

FYI.

I'd assumed that "Nanyang" was the name of a studio of  afficionados  of art (or males or sheep! ) in Singapore (with 'Nan' meaning "South", presumably, and the only meanings I have for 'Yang' are "ram" and "male" )!
I try to think outside the box, but sometimes I get so far out, and at warp speed.  Grin Grin

Hi Joey ,

Nice outside box thinking,:) 南洋(nan yang) is normally consider to be the counties in southest of Asia by chinese , which includes Singapore, Tailand, Malaysia.

-Richard,

Please correct me if I am wrong.Smiley

Thank you, Steven.
So Nanyang means "Southern Ocean". I can see how that would refer to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
