Hi Steven

I know Joe personally and have visited his home many times.

He sold off his collection in 2010 at Sotheby's New York.

Regards.

Wow Richard!

That is really cool! when I did some research, and found out that he is living in Singapore, no wonder that you can visit him so many time.Smiley I thought he lives in British or some country in Europe because of the his tone.

Did you get any bottles from his auction?

Steven

Steven,
Of course! He is a friend for over 30 years.
I first met him in late 1981, while visiting Singapore for the second time. We met at the Magain Avoth Synagogue, on Shabbat (Saturday) and after prayers, when he'd heard me called up as 'Yosef Baruch ben Natan Notah' (Joseph Baruch son of Nathan Notah), he addressed me as 'Joseph Baruch'. I responded that everyone called me 'Joey'.
He then asked what brought me to Singapore, and I said I was on the tail end of  a round the world flight on PANAM and had been to the  ICSBS Honolulu convention as well. "Oh", he then said, "so you are the 'Joey Silver' I've heard so much about!"
I have good friends in Singapore (recently passed away I understand), Savi and Florie Khafi, and was invited to their home for Shabbat lunch after services, but on Sunday, I was at the Grimbergs' for brunch and saw his collection. Really Wonderful! Not very large (about 120-150, I believe), but every example choice.
 Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

  Steven,
I just went through Joe Grimberg's catalogue. He sold 189 bottles, kept at least one back (his first), and 6 of the bottles in the auction had come from my collection.

Thanks Joey,

What a small world! and what a great story!

The bottles are passing between collectors, so are the friendship.

I will go check his bottles too.Smiley

Steven,
the lots in the catalogue which were mine previously, are: 25, 26, 78, 93, 106, and 114. I had thought that he'd purchased 9 or 10 bottles from my collection, through Clare Chu (at the time, Clare Lawrence), because he paid over a period of 6 or 7 months for the group, except for the ones he'd bought at the Hong Kong Christie's sale. He kept back 11 bottles; I wonder whether he didn't keep 3 or 4 of mine, among the 11.
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey
