Welcome to the forum. You will find this wonderful discussion forum a wealth of information.  I am in North Central Texas, and have been collecting for nearly two years.  If you are not collecting yet, watch out. You will, and it is addictive.

That is beautiful. Looks as though it would feel wonderful in the hand.

Thank you both. It was exciting to find a snuff bottle locally.  Now I want to visit all the antique stores again.

Found this bottle in an antique shop just recently, along with another I will be asking about when I get a photo. I was thrilled to find a few snuff bottles in an actual brick and mortar store. Especially in a remote town outside of Waco, Texas.  So I had to buy it, just for the experience!!

It is very smooth in my hand and it is also quite thin. There is a nice shiny brass, or maybe even gilt spoon.

The fun was worth the $40.00, but was the bottle?

That is beautiful.  I am wondering, what can be seen in the photo that determines it is stained ivory?

Again, this forum is a treasure trove of information.

    Thank you,

I have been wondering about cleaning snuff bottles. What is the best way?

Thank you for your excellent advice.  It is a shame that their are such dishonest people, but new collectors like myself are always in danger of being cheated. So thank you again.

The bottle is 44.45mm.  I have wondered if that makes it a miniature. I also love the natural beauty of the needles.

    Thank you,

Thank you. I find it fascinating. Of course, I am a life long rock hound.

I am in Hamilton. 65 miles north of Waco.  Itty bitty town. Our temperature dropped to 7 degrees about four nights ago, but thank goodness there was no precipitation, so no ice.  Killed my big cactus plant in the front yard, though, and maybe even my peach tree. But it is supposed to warm up today. Did you get an ice storm this year?

Thank you kindly, everone.  It is satisfying to have some idea of what the history of a bottle might be. It adds an additional dimension of depth to these fascinating little gems of artwork.  Also, thank you for the photo tips. We have been freezing here in Texas, and it is supposed to start warming. Hooray.

      Have a lovely day.

Thank you for asking.  Also, on one side of the  bottle is an etching of a flower. It is hard to see in the photo.

Hi,

I was given this hair crystal bottle for my birthday last year, and it is one of my favorites. Not so much for the appearance, as it looks beat up, but for the feel in my hand. It is as smooth as silk. It is so smooth that it is a bit hard to hold onto. I handle it seldom, as I am afraid it will slip out of my fingers.  Just wanted to share, and if anyone has any knowledge of this type of bottle, I would appreciate the education.

   Have a great day, everyone.

What a magnificent bottle. How old is it?

Thank you kindly. It is satisfying to know something about the bottle.  I am glad it is not worth very much, otherwise I would feel obligated to give it back. It was part of the inspiration for me to collect, and I am enjoying my new passion.

Thank you all form making me feel welcome.

I realized that I should have posted a picture of the front of the bottle. There are peaches on the front. No cap, and it is about 2 3/4 inches tall. There is a bit of a residue visible around the mouth. I have no idea of the value, but I traded about $250.00 worth of lessons for it.  The money is not important, however. She is a dear and I would gladly teach her for free, but she is proud and is always bringing me something.

Hopefully the New Year will be a good one for us all.

I like the barter system.  I have actually done commissions that way. My best trade was for massage therapy. Heaven!

Here is my trade for art lessons bottle. Was bought in the 1960's in a shop in England. No cap or spoon. Hope the photos are not too bad and I also hope I have done this correctly.

  Happy New Year to everyone.

Thank you. That would be a good way to start.  I bought a pair of snuff bottles on Ebay a few years back.  I have no idea why, beyond I thought they were pretty.  They are supposed to be cherry amber, one with a dragon design, the other with a bat.  They were inexpensive. I paid one hundred dollars for both.  They were charming, and I knew that someday I would start collecting.

Then one of my art students traded lessons for a bottle that her mother had purchased in the '60's from an antique shop in England. It is lovely, and that pushed me over the edge.  I started collecting last year and have been enjoying it very much.

This forum is so packed with knowledgeable people, and I feel like a student. Thank you all for sharing.
