Dear Joey,

Thank you for sharing your experience and memory of friendship and mentorship with the late Mr. Y.F. Yang with us. Although I did not get the privilege to meet and know Mr. Yang personally, I can imagine the greatness of his personality from the obituary you’ve written.

Best,
Samson

Hi Tom,

Nice peanuts and nicely carved! These imitation peanuts are more precious than real edible peanuts! Cheesy

Dear Samson,
I don’t agree with you. First at all, in some of his listings he says, for example “Song style”, and that is correct. But in others listings he declares the piece as being Song and that is a fraud.
But I would go further. In my previous post, I originally did write a sentence that then I decide to delete before posting. The sentence was “There are some limits in Democracy”.
Meaning what I said further, that if sued, the guy would much probably be legitimate because the matter is on the buyer. That is not correct in my opinion.
There are many criminals taking advantage of the ignorance of not educated people, aged persons, and so on. Not always an ignorant should be blamed for that. In most cases, it has just been not lucky, he just had no conditions to elevate his cultural level. Or he lived in small communities where everybody relies on the others, they are not prevented against scam.
Those people should be protected, they are not causing troubles to the Community, while criminals do.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

Yes. One thing we all can certainly agree on, these people don’t do any good to collectors, especially the amateur ones, and to the community as a whole! I would have fallen into such traps when I started out two years ago!

This guy doesn’t even bother spending any effort doing so. All kinds of spams and rip-offs exist in this world. We should always be wary.

Best,
Samson

The seller HAS misrepresented them: By putting down  "Antique Original", under the subject "Original/Reproduction

Dear Joey,

Yes you’re right. I missed that... then there’s an issue.

Best,
Samson

Dear Giovanni,

As crazy as it sounds, I think that Swedish guy does have the right to price his goods at what ever price he wishes, so long as he hasn’t misrepresented them. Whether any sensible person would buy them and willfully fall for such a rip off is another question...

The guy is not going to have any business. He can only have a deal with insane people, not sensible people like us... Roll Eyes

That’s very unexpected. The inside painting world has lost another star.

I don’t really collect modern inside painted bottles but have seen Master Lu’s works in Geoff’s collection. I have to say I’m really amazed and impressed with the fine details he’d executed in those “grand events” painting.

Though now he’s gone, Master Lu’s works will be deeply favoured and cherished by passionate collectors for long time to come.

May he rest in peace.

Samson,

Yep! Late last year, one that I bought at auction.

Cheers,

Rube.

Dear Rube,"

Wow! Shocked Coincidentally that's where I bought my first smoky quartz bottle, and if I'm right, it shares the same provenance with this hair crystal bottle of yours! But I think I may have bidded against you on this one because I liked it too... Roll Eyes

People say great minds think alike; I say great collectors share the same tastes... Grin Cheesy

So you got yourself an amazing bottle! Congratulations! Grin Smiley

Samson

Dear Rube,

Thanks! Smiley The latest hair crystal bottle you shared with a unique spoon, I've seen one that's either the same or highly similar in an auction at the beginning of the year. Love it!

Samson

Dear Joey,

Thank you! I think these days it's rather rare to see Bob Stevens' bottles for sale. I feel happy and blessed to have one in my collection! Smiley

Dear all,

Apparently, Tom's thread has become a platform for members to showcase bottles matching the theme from their collections. So I've decided to share mine here instead of opening a new thread! Wink

This smoky quartz bottle came as a birthday present for myself. It's my second smoky quartz bottle. One with a good provenance: Sotheby's New York, Collection of Bob C. Stevens, 25 June 1982.

Height: 67mm

Seems like the bottle has been kept in its original condition all these years as the 35 years old auction label is still on the bottle.

Special thanks to Charll for providing me catalog image and description of the bottle from the 1982 auction. I simply adore its undecorared form!

Hope you all like it!

Best,
Samson

Dear Joey and Jason,

Perhaps the Tories are so desperate for getting some achievements marked on their blank performance card that they are introducing such a law? When a government fails to please the people, they turn to "protect" the endangered animals to gain back some popularity... Roll Eyes

Dear Joey and Jo,

Yes, I will definitely go for telephone bidding in the future when auctions take place at odd hours for me and when there is just one ot two bottles I want to buy.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Dear Joey,

It was Bonhams Asian Art auction in San Francisco last night (around noon SF time). Not specifically a SB auction which probably explains why there wasn't much interest in the two bottles I wanted to get.

I don't really know anyone at Bonhams but I'm trying to get in touch with a customer service personnel who had assisted me recently during the Golder sale to see if anything can be worked out.

It's a shame because both bottles looked fine and Yu Shuyun's works are hard to come by.

Happy Sukkot!
Samson

Dear all,

First of all, Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all Chinese members! As some of you may know, it's been a festival tradition for us to appreciate the bright full moon on Mid-Autumn night. To us, a bright, round full moon symbolises family reunion, abundance, completeness and harmony. The unstable weather here in HK these few days prevented us from such an opportunity. However, I'm not too upset by it as I have my own "round full moon" at home - this white jade snuff bottle that I recently acquired from the Dr. Sylvan and Faith Golder sale at Bonhams NY.

Hope you enjoy and I wish take the opportunity to wish everyone of you an abundant and enriched life.

Best to all,
Samson
