I have a love/hate relationship with IPSBs, love them visually from all periods as miniature pieces of art but hate the fact I cant read the artists name! I will upload two of my inside painted whose names I cannot figure out and hopefully someone here can recognize it and give me a hand so I can do further research. This first one is actually my favorite, its a newish acquisition that I got for a steal but unfortunately there is some damage to the calligraphy/signature (and that's it! figures), I have a feeling it is a newer bottle then the second one I will show because the glass seems "cleaner" and more modern but I could be wrong. If no one can read the blurry signature scribbles then no fear, I will enjoy it as a nice piece of art. Anyways thank you for your input! Unfortunately I do not read Chinese as well, but the style looks familiar to me. It could be an early work of Li Kechang or in the style of some of the earlier works by Li Kechang. In the Chinese Snuff Bottle Society of America newsletter March 1973 there is an article written by Michael Kaynes, "Climbing Ying Mountain", there is a set or series of very similar bottles that Michael introduced that were painted by Li Kechang in 1966. Attached is one such unsigned bottle that I have in my collection. We'll have to see if any of our other members can read the script. Thank you for the quick reply! I must say I did a little searching and found this at Bonhams, early period Li Kechang (1965), almost identical bottle shape (I got shafted on the beautiful jadeite stopper this one has though!) with small figures that are very similar in shape and style. I wont jump the gun though but this definitely gives me an area to research in. I really appreciate it! By the way, Li Kechang has some pretty amazing micro-detailed bottles. ~Daniel |
