Title: seeking Yong Shou Tian translation help
Post by: Rube on August 03, 2017, 09:11:23 pm
Greetings,

Recently, I went on a short vacation to the east coast of the US, and to pass some time, I wandered into a few antique stores.  I was excited to actually find a few snuff bottles (never find any in the midwest).  In great thanks to this Forum, and lots of threads pertaining to Yong Shou tian and Liu Qiao, I recognized a few warrior bottles which I believed to be Yong Shou Tian, and another by a student (second signature) and bought them.  I'm posting the YST bottle, which measures 3 3/4", and am seeking help in the translation of this busy bottle. All help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Rube.

Dear Rube,

     Congratulations on your finds.
In YST-3, 4th row from right, the cyclical date characters Ding Wei (in this instance 1907) are inscribed.
I'm sorry I can't help any more.
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Congratulations on a very busy YST painting indeed .. !

Neither can I add anything more than the date that Joey has said.

I have yet to find a bottle at any store, or sale of any kind in the city.  Actually all the antique stores I have gone to in Spokane look at me confused when I inquire because they do not know what a snuff bottle even is..

Joey,
Thank you for supplying the date, especially placing it in the exact row. So often, if I'm able to vaguely recognize a signature, I usually find it next to a seal mark, and that's it. Guess I need to study the cyclical dates.
George,
I know what you mean! In this incidence, there was the YST bottle by itself in one showcase, and a bunch of other bottles in the case next to it containing the student bottle, being offered by a different dealer. It's fun to have them both as a point of comparison.
Cheers,
Rube.
