Title: From an Australian antiques shop - Cloisonne bottle
Post by: Boletus on July 24, 2017, 12:37:58 pm
Hello again,

following my posting of a double-overlay glass bottle a few days ago together with a kind suggestion by Giovanni, I'd like to post here some images of the cloisonné bottle that came from the same place in Australia. I hope you'll enjoy the images. Please let me have your thoughts and comments.
Best
Frank

Dear Frank,

It's very nice, but I'd date it ca. 1950-1990.
Best, and welcome to the Forum,
I hope to meet you in Sept.
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,

thank you for your comments and for giving me your opinion as the possible date, at least I'm happy you think of it as very nice.
I too hope I'll be able to meet you in September, and am looking forward to that.
Kindest regards
Frank

Dear George,

thank you for your comments, it was my pleasure to show it! I was hoping for an older date for this bottle (perhaps late 19th C/early 20th C) as it has quality and shows good patina but I guess that's not the case.
Cheers
Frank

Dear Frank,

I'd not yet read that Giovanni feels it has age and quality. I guess in this case I'm your 'fairy' something or other  ::) ;D, since I would now date it ca. 1880-1930.
Best,
Joey

Ha!
Dear "fairy" Joey, thanks for realizing my wish!
Now the bottle is ca. 1880-1930 and I'm very happy about it.
I really had the feeling that that was the case.
I have to thank Giovanni too of course!
Kindest regards
Frank

Dear Joey,
as you know I am not expert on cloisonné bottles.
What makes me positive about Frank’s bottle was the patina, the absence of artificial staining as very often seen on such bottles, the relatively simple design and, if I am not wrong, the unusual shape of the foot.
But let say that we will form a better idea about it on next September, during the Italian-Israeli meeting! ;D
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

I trust your eye, and all the points you made. As soon as I saw the bottle, I said to myself, "it is a simple enough design that it could well have been made during the actual SB period". And the wear I could see on the bottom, reminded me of other objects, definitely from the period I gave (ca.1880-1930) or even a bit earlier (say Tongzhi/ early Guangxu, or 1865-1880).

But we will see in Sept.
Best,
Joey
