Title: Age of Blue and White Bottle Post by: Mat on March 22, 2017, 08:44:18 am I need your help once again. What do you think about this porcelain bottle? Size is 5.8 cm without stopper. Could it be late 19th c? I guess not Qianlong as the mark suggests...
Thank you very much, Matthias Title: Re: Age of Blue and White Bottle Post by: Joey Silver / Si Zhouyi 義周司 on March 22, 2017, 01:03:10 pm Dear Mat,
It looks modern to me, but let's see what Giovanni says. The colour looks wrong and the 'apocryphal' (read fake) mark looks even more wrong than usual. Best, Joey Title: Re: Age of Blue and White Bottle Post by: George on March 22, 2017, 02:18:21 pm I have not seen one quite like this..
Look forward to hearing what others think.. Title: Re: Age of Blue and White Bottle Post by: Mat on March 22, 2017, 02:39:31 pm Thank you both, I have tried to make better photos that match the real hue of the blue better... There are remains of snuff inside, so it seems to have been used...

Or the stuff inside is meant to make you think it was used. The fakers use lots of tricks. Having said that, the colour on the later photos seems better (ie. earlier) than that of the earlier pics. I will be interested to hear Giovanni's thoughts. Best, Joey Thank you both, I have tried to make better photos that match the real hue of the blue better... your second set of pictures is very strange, I don’t understand how did you take those pictures. Anyway, both sets of pictures are quite blurred; are you using a phone? The type of blue is not so important, what is important is that I too, like George, have never seen before a snuff bottle in the shape of a Cong vase. The glaze has some problems, crazing and burst holes, which are common on early Qing ware. But, since the bottle clearly is not early Qing, I believe that they are purposely made; this indicate, the same way as the snuff or pseudo-snuff, that the bottle has been made to looks old as suggested by Joey. I think that also the decoration is purposely sloppy and the decoration on the neck and shoulders is quite bad. Not convincing to me, sorry. Kind regards Giovanni Title: Re: Age of Blue and White Bottle Post by: Mat on March 23, 2017, 08:06:06 am Thank you Giovanni, actually the second set was made with a camera, I just had problems with the light conditions. I see the problems you point out, so modern the bottle is!
