Title: HAPPY HANUKA / MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR !
Post by: Joey Silver / Si Zhouyi 義周司 on December 21, 2016, 03:02:59 am
This year, Hanuka starts on Sat. Night, 24.Dec.2016 and ends on Sun.aft.01.Jan.2017.
Latin Christmas starts on Sat. Eve, 24.Dec.2016 as well (Orthodox Christmas in Israel starts on
Fri. Eve, 6.Jan.2017; Armenian Apostolic Christmas starts on Fri. Eve, 13.Jan.2017).

I want to wish all members of the Forum, their famiy and friends, A Happy Hanuka, A Merry Christmas (whenever they celebrate it!) and A Happy New Year (Universal, on 01.Jan.; Japanese, on 10.Jan.; Chinese, on 28.Jan.; Baha'i on 19.Mar.; etc....)!

Best,
Joey

Thanks Joey! Happy Hanuka to you! True, when Julia used to be in Ukraine, she and her family celebrated Christmas on 7 January. :)

Best wishes,
Samson

Dear Samson,

      Thank you.
I understand that 7.Jan. on the Gregorian calendar is equivalent to 25.Dec. on the old Julian calendar.

Best,
Joey

Dear Joey, and all the friends here, thank you and Happy Christmas, Hanuka, or whatever you celebrate, and Happy New Year. I take the opportunity to apologize for my absence from the Forum, I am extremely busy recently. I have been requested to help the assembly of the Christmas Nativity scene in the local church and this is keeping me very busy, but I happy with what I did.
Dear Samson, they must be Orthodox, because they celebrate Christmas on 7th January believing that it is closer to the date of the birth; but that is questionable too, because even the year is not exactly known. For what I know, historians believe that it must have happened between 2 to 5 years before the year zero.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

If we are going to get technical (and aren't I always, except for actual 'tech' stuff?  ::) ;D),
Jesus was 2-3 years of age during the 'massacre of the innocents' when Herod the Great was dying. He was sick with syphilis and crazy, and figured this way, every family in Israel would mourn his death, since it was the cause of all their 2-3 yr olds being murdered by his mercenaries.
That happened in 4 BCE, so Jesus had to have been born in 7 or 6 BCE to have been 'threatened'. The New Testament claims Herod was trying to murder Jesus, and all the other kids were 'collateral damage'.
7.Jan. IS 25.Dec., according to the previous Julian calendar, by Julius Caesar.

But the important thing is, we all want some happiness and good cheer in the dark days of winter, and I support that for those of all Faiths or No Faith; though I DON'T like the Islamist way to have a rip-roaring time by such acts as the ramming attack at the Christmas Fair in Germany, or the attack on the Cathedral in Egypt, or the attack on churches in Iraq, or.... Sorry. I'm getting boring.
   Best,
Joey

Dear Joey, you are right, I didn't remember correctly. The date of birth is somewhere between 7 years before onward, not 5.
I knew about the Christmas of 7th January of the Orthodox Church because I had a Russian colleague who told me that.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

I get the 7.Jan. date of the Orthodox Christian Churches, because it is simply 25.Dec. in the older Julian calendar.
But why do the Armenian Apostolic Christians celebrate a week after the Orthodox?
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,

You posted the date yourself at the start of this thread. Why are you asking Giovanni for the answer?  ???

Best,
Tom

Dear Tom,

I KNOW the date. I would love to know why.  And I was asking the Universe, not Giovanni personally. ::) ;D
Best,
Joey

Happy  Christmas (and  Happy  Hanuka) to all

I think we  have  shared  this  Youtube  clip  before  but  it's  worth  repeating for  new-comers  to the  Forum

However I think President-elect  Donald the  Trump  would  NOT agree  with the  sentiments - especially regarding Christmas  toys  being  made  in China ( no  jobs  for  the  elves  ....  sorry  the  Americans )

Dear Peter,

I LOVE that clip!  ;D :D I love the Chinese couple speaking Yiddish, and the Arab family at the end.
But I doubt that President-Elect Trump would be that pushed over the sentiments  one way or another - He's smart enough to realise it is just a comedy skit...
Best to all for whichever Feast (or none) that they observe.
Joey
