Re Shen Zhen Cang,-"Re Shen (name) Precious Treasure". This mark is found on a large group of blue & white porcelain. The mark first appeared in the Kangxi period and became popular in the Late Qing to the Early Republic period (1900-1950). Although also seen on modern wares, I believe this one to be Late Qing. 'Ruo shen zhen cang', which was used in the Kangxi era (1662-1722) and subsequently. It is cataloged as No. 1796 in Gerald Davison's 'The New and Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Porcelain', where it is translated as 'Precious collection of the seemingly old'. Such marks and the term itself originally were applied to high quality Kangxi-period copies of famous Ming and earlier wares, some produced by the imperial kilns and others commissioned by princes and high-ranking bureaucrats and scholars. Except here the horses are in water.
