Dear Eric,

The colour is off on your photos - that bottle looks much more like Amethyst than Tourmaline.
It looks like a fine early bottle too, ca. 1780-1860.

Best,
Joey

Dear Eric,

I saw the photos before looking at Joey's and was thinking what a nice double gourd Amethyst.
This does not looked like a tourmaline.

Cheers,
YT

Dear Joey YT and Steven,
The first time I saw the photo I also think it is Amethyst, but after receiving it I have a different view, the color of the picture and not the same color, the color and the image of the arrow pointing to the same.

That makes perfect sense. The pictures can fool people sometimes. :)

Dear Eric,
I too think that it is Amethyst. But it is right that the quality of the pictures is very important. It is not matter of too high light, it is matter of taking the pictures in correct way.
In this case, the more reliable pictures are no doubt the first ones. We can see there that the white background is just a bit off, but not so much, so the color is close to the real.
Instead, in the picture with the black keyboard we see that there is a strong reddish dominant, which is due to the type of light, that picture has been taken inside home with a warm tone lamp and the White Balance setting of the camera has not been adjusted accordingly.
The last picture too is not right, for another reason. There the white balance seems good but you have placed a transparent bottle over the pink color of your hand, so we are looking at a blending of the two colors.
What you should do is to place the bottle over a pure white background, or much better, a neutral pure grey background so the exposure will be more correct, then read the Owner’s manual of your camera and follow the instructions about the Custom White Balance setting.
That way you will have a correct picture under the color rendering point of view.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Steven & Eric,

I am envious. I wish there was another serious collector in Jerusalem. I have one friend, a retired police officer, but as you can imagine, since he was an honest cop, he's not got the cash to buy great bottles! But I'm glad we have [mainly] honest cops here!  ;)

Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey
