Although he was not much of an IP collector, the book shows some beautiful, Organic, porcelain, glass, enamel, quartz, jade, and stone.. It also shows the reign marks.. A lot of very nice and some, very unusual molded porcelains.. Some that I especially like are the white glass carved in relief and painted with famille rose enamels.. I have always liked these particular type of bottles... Any way... Nice collection .. He was not any sort of collector of snuff bottles! An English missionary or missionary doctor collected the snuff bottles in China, over 20 or 30 years; then this guy bought the whole collection at a bargain price even for then, and added it to the Burghley House collections (Almost every owner of the estate has added a collection of antiques or art to the estate collections, since the 18th C. I see you have a liking for the 'Ancient Moon Pavilion' marked glass bottles. Apart from the Imperial enamel-on-copper 'Qianlong' period bottles, this is one of the priciest groups being sold at auction these days! Joey, You are spot on about Burleigh House! In July 1981, I had come to London for a Sotheby's auction, and my best friend Khalil had come with. We met my very close friends Carlos & Mercedes Soler, from Barcelona. We contacted Burghley House, and I personally spoke to the so-and-so about seeing and handling the bottles. He swore up and down there would be no problem. We went by train to Peterborough, took a taxi to the house, paid a lot to get in, to be told that we couldn't even see them, much less handle them. His heir (till 2007, when the Marquisate went to a male relative), Lady Victoria Leatham, was a consultant at Sotheby's and can occasionally be seen on the English version of The Antiques Roadshow, is a friend, and I was able to view the bottles 'live', when she was in control. The Ancient Egyptians are no more. Same with the Nabataeans, the Phoenicians, the Hittites, the Babylonians, the Philistines, the Canaanites, the Jebusites, the Ancient Greeks, etc., etc. We and the Armenians are about the only nations in Western Asia to have survived with our culture intact. And of course, China in East Asia... Which is one reason I think China respects Israel. We hold onto our culture, while still developing and contributing to the world.
