Title: The Art of Chinese Snuff Bottles' J & J Collection.
Post by: George on April 05, 2014, 02:33:49 am
This was an eBay spur of the moment buy it now..

I know the 1993, Hugh M, Victor G edition is expensive.. I took a chance buying this one in hopes it is a later copy of the 1st edition. This one published 2002.

I can not copy the eBay link here using my phone..

Would someone have a look at this and tell me about it ?

You will have enter the item number into the search box.

Wow !

You  guys  are   sure  investing  in  books  !

That's   good   work  ....  but   yoy  must  never  forget that   that   EVERY   BOOK   YOU  OWN  MUST BE   SCANNED   AND   MOUNTED   SOMEWHERE  / SOMEPLACE   IN  THE www

Thats   equally  my   responsibility   for  all  the  books   I    collecteded   (many  via  Richard)

Step-by-step  I   will  scan   them  all  and   include  in  my  DB,   and   increasingly  large "BLACK HOLE"   DB   will   take   it  all  in    and  I will   distribute  multiple copies    to   trusted   friends

One  day   people   will    talks   of  my  DB   the  same  way  that    they now   talk  about   J.H. Leung's  "A New  look  of   Inside  Painted Snuff  Bootles"

Except that  my  DB   will  always   be   free   and    always  be  able  to  update  yourself -like   living thing

THIS     will  be  my   gift  to posterity

Cheers

Peter

George,

You did all right with this purchase in my opinion and may have gotten a nice collector’s item with the exhibition pamphlet, not the snuff bottle!  This is not a book.  I had been looking at this ebay item for some time as it came and when without bids.  I did not bite because I did not want to deal with the bottles.

After contacting the seller and finding out it is only a 28 page pamphlet, they let mecancel the purchase. So you may want to see if it is relisted..
No, the bottles are not worth anything..

Just a fair warning to non-US based buyers for this set.  It cost me over $100 USD to get them shipped to me in Bangkok.  Heavy!!!

Pat,

I bought my set from Asia Books in Sukhumvit Road. It was at the time the most expensive book purchase I'd ever made, at THB 6,900. But the bookstore was giving a 10% discount for spending over THB 5,000, so I got them for THB 6,200 (equivalent in those days to around USD 240). No shipping, just aching arms from lugging them home!

Tom

Which book store is this?  I have NEVER seen ANY snuff bottle books for sale here in BKK.

Pat,

Asia Books has many branches, but the first and original is in a ramshackle 3-storey house close to Robinson's Sukhumvit, directly opposite Times Square. They don't generally carry books on snuff bottles, but if they do, this is where you will find them. I once was rummaging through the shelves in a back corner, and found some old Hugh Moss catalogues from the 1970s! I suspect one of the directors of the store has some interest in them.

From my experience, if they don't have a particular book you want, they will order it for you and call you when it arrives. It sometimes means a wait of 5-6 weeks, but they do not normally add any shipping charge, as it simply 'piggy-backs' their own bulk mail order.
